Just came across this interesting dog chew called “Chilly Bone” and it is designed for adult dogs and teething puppies. It is apparently Vanilla favored and you wet it and place it in the freezer and after a couple hours take it out and give it to your dog. Because it is a tasty frozen dog chew made out of reusable canvas it can be frozen over and over. During summer and hot weather your dog can cool off a bit by licking the Chilly Bone and puppies that are teething can get some cool relief from sore and itchy gums and teeth. I think our Bichon Frise Luna might like the Chilly Bone and I hope it cools her down a bit as the temperature is in the triple digits this time of year for us and Luna even though she is an in-door princess with lots of air conditioning and an endless supply of fresh cold clean water she still gets hot with her Bichon Frise puff ball coat!! Summer is in full-swing where we are in the Southern USA and our Bichon is panting all the time! We have her fur trimmed and she gets groomed every 2 weeks, we keep the house cool, make sure she has an endless supply of fresh cold water and yet, she is hot all the time. Bichon Frise dogs are much less efficient at cooling themselves than people, so they are more susceptible to overheating. A Bichon’s normal body temperature is 100-102 degrees, and they have sweat glands on their nose and pads of their paws. They pant and drink water to cool down, so always have fresh, cool water available for your Bichon — whether on a walk, in the car or in a tip-proof bowl in the house or yard. Most Bichon’s are not out door dogs but, if yours is an outdoor dog, bring him inside during the hottest hours of the day, and provide a shaded area in the yard, preferably in a well-constructed doghouse, making sure he always has access to cool water, since the hot sun can quickly make water too hot to drink. We have a bit of an investment in our notebook computers and our iPhones. They get used every day and both have a lot of miles on them as they travel everywhere with us. Sadly, we aren’t able to take our little Bichon, Luna, everywhere with us too. Since we love to have her around and we need to keep our phone and computers scratch free, we have them all protected with simple skins.
The ‘skins’, as they are called, are thin nylon removable covers. Easy on and easy off, the sticky stuff they use on these do not leave any goop behind when we remove them… to update with a new picture. The picture on our protectors have images on them that we took ourselves. The services we use Unique Skins allows a person to upload any image to make protective skins for a variety of phones, notebooks and other mobile devices. The ones below that we did ran less than $10 so it’s pretty affordable ‘protection’ and gives us another picture to take with us. You can use any picture, kids, vacation spots, and such… you choose.
Have any of you ever heard of Les Poochs? I was wondering about their pricey pooch perfumes and if any one has tried them on their Bichon Frises. Normally we do not spray anything on our Bichon- Luna and when she goes to the groomers she usually comes back smelling just like a Sugar Cookie, really sweet and yummy that you do want to just eat her all up!

Does Your Bichon Frise Puppy Cry at Night?
Your new Bichon Frise puppy may start to cry late at night when all is quiet and it is time for sleep. This occurs because the puppy by nature wants to be with the “pack” during sleep time. The Bichon Frise pack is not present and the puppy begins to panic. The pup may howl and yelp on and off for quite some time. The best way to solve this problem is to allow your Bichon Frise puppy to sleep with you in bed or at least in the same room. If the Bichon Frise puppy continues to yelp or cry you may want to say “No” or “Go to Sleep” to let your Bichon Frise know you’re there. The puppy will calm down and yelp less and eventually go to sleep.
If this doesn’t work, you can place a toy near your Bichon Frise puppy, and this may calm him down. The plush toy will act like a litter mate, and in turn; ease the puppy into sleep. You can use a little blanket or soft t-shirt right from the dryer and place it right next to your Bichon Frise puppy. This may also help to aid in the loneliness. Your new Bichon Frise puppy may have a problem with the sleeping situation for a while but as time goes on will get used to his/her new environment.
When we first got our Bichon Luna, we were kennel training her so we would bring her kennel into the bedroom at night and place her in it with a little blanket and toy and bone and close the door. Luna cried (real crying, not whining) for the first few times and her cries were heart breaking indeed! We later started allowing her onto the bed with us…she is so darn cute and little. She quickly became comfortable to sleeping with us without taking up our space. Today Luna is 1 1/2 years old, she can be found sleeping above our heads burrowed into the pillows or right next to my husband’s legs. Kennel training in the beginning was a good thing as we travel often on planes. Luna gets to go along as long as she remains in her airline approved pet carrier right next to our legs with both of our air vents pointed down at her. She does not complain at all as long as she can see us.
