Teething Bichon Frise Puppy

2010 April 7

As your Bichon Frise puppy starts growing, he or she will begin to show signs of teething. This will occur around 4-5 months of age. This tends to be uncomfortable for the Bichon Frise puppy and they will often want to chew on things to ease this irritation. There are a few ways you can help ease the pain for your new Bichon Frise pup. Make chicken soup ice cubes and place them in a bowl or hand them off to your teething puppy. As your Bichon Frise puppy tries to chew the cubes, he or she will numb the gums and mouth.

Another option for your Bichon Frise puppy is to soak a clean rag and then place it in the freezer; your Bichon Frise puppy can use this to chew on to help ease the pain. You can also visit your favorite pet supply store and find rubber chews that can be placed into the freezer and then given to your puppy. This period of time can be quite painful for your Bichon Frise puppy, and sometimes bleeding may occur. It is important to discourage your Bichon Frise puppy from chewing on objects in the home. Even giving your puppy little baby dog bones can help. At times the pup will even try to chew on your arms and legs. The teething process causes a great deal of discomfort for your Bichon Frise puppy, using the frozen compress or the ice cubes can help ease the pain.

Forget Microchipping your Bichon Frise, try GPS Instead

2010 March 24

With technology moving at such a fast pace, microchipping is now considered retro among many Bichon Frise owners and they are opting instead for a GPS (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM) to track their beloved dog(s). GPS-based devices like Globalpetfinder and PetsCell are the equivalent of doggy LoJack: If your Bichon Firse leaves the yard, you’re going to know. If the Bichon strays outside the boundary, an alert is sent to your cell phone or computer, along with a continuously updated location. PetsCell takes the concept a step further: The collar-based device is also a cell phone that allows a dog to hear his master’s voice.

We have our Luna microchipped and realize this only provides some comfort to us if she should get lost or stolen as whoever finds her must have a microchip scanner and actually scan her. But, technology is a cool thing for sure in keeping our Bichon Frise puppy dogs close by! Read more.
